Do you have outdated content?
Refresh it and upcycle!
Is outdated content weighing your site down? I’ve been there. As a writer who started in print media, I wasn’t sure how to adapt my published articles to the web when I designed my first website or how to repurpose and refresh my writing.
Readers are drawn to valuable long-form narratives and quality storytelling, especially when it fits the niche they’re interested in. And it needs to be current and up-to-date.
But don’t dismiss your older content! Repackage and reuse it without rewriting it from scratch. This is called upcycling. The content is refreshed and then repurposed on various platforms.
As a best practice, schedule to go over your site regularly to flag outdated articles and blog posts. And going forward, make sure your writing is as timeless as possible.
Refreshing Outdated Content
→ Review each post/article regularly, update/add new links and resources and eliminate old and broken external links. (If you use WordPress, you can use plugins like Broken Link Checker, which scan your site in the background and flag broken links.)
→ Find up-to-date statistics/data/infographics to add to your refreshed content.
