Are you at a loss for words sometimes? Sure you are, every writer is. Even the most experienced among us stumble. We hit writer’s block, can’t find the right words or fail to make sentences sing. And as editors, we sometimes fear we’ve overlooked the obvious. No more, though. There’s no shame in getting a little bit of help.

Here are my 10 favorite online writing and editing tools:

  • https://app.grammarly.com/ (free, upgrade optional) An online grammar/spelling checker with a Gmail add-on. There is a paid version to check longer texts with more add-on options.
  • https://capitalizemytitle.com/ (free) Automatically capitalize sentences and case convert them to Title Case (in AP, APA, Chicago, MLA, BB, AMA), Sentence case, UPPERCASE, lowercase and more.
  • https://editor.typely.com/ (free) Type your text and get recommendations on how to improve it.
  • https://www.losethevery.com/ (free) Combine “very” with a simple adjective and find a more precise word.
  • https://relatedwords.org/ (free) This tool helps you search for near-synonyms, related to a specific word or phrase.
  • https://recabulary.app/ (free) This is a word-hub app to build up your vocabulary and store discovered terminology for future…
